THE CHAPTER 7 BANKRUPTCY PROCESS

● Click on "Get Started", sign up and pay.

● Click "Sign In", then create a username and password under "New User".

●
Complete the online Bankruptcy Questionnaire, then click "Submit".

● Your completed official bankruptcy forms will be emailed to you. Just print, sign and date, then take or mail them to your local bankruptcy court.

● Your bankruptcy will be effective immediately upon filing and an "automatic stay" will prohibit your creditors from contacting you or otherwise attempting to collect a debt from you. If any creditor violates the automatic stay, that creditor can be held in contempt of court and punished by fine or imprisonment.

● The Bankruptcy Court will notify your creditors of your bankruptcy filing and automatic stay by regular mail (or electronically for registered creditors).

● Approximately 4 weeks after filing, you must attend a "Meeting of Creditors" (also known as a "341a Meeting") by phone or online meeting and answer the bankruptcy trustee's questions. The meeting typically lasts about 3 to 5 minutes. Creditors rarely attend the meeting and no attorney is required.

● An "Order of Discharge" forgiving all or most of your debts should be entered approximately 60 days after the Meeting of Creditors and your bankruptcy case will be closed.
